UnBeaten

I am proud to announce that after the first game of the season the River Kings football team is unbeaten. The varsity won their match 34-7 and the Sophomores won theirs 32-7. More importantly Sarah did a good job o managing all of her game night responsiblities. She needs to head to the locker room to fill glasses with gatorade with about 7 minutes left in the second quarter. She then needs to be out and join the band with 1 minute left. I kept watching for her to come back out and she never did. Believe me, I was getting a little worried that she had lost track of time, but that wasn't the case. When the band took to the field, it was easy to spot Sarah. She was the only one that wasn't wearing a uniform. I just looked for her white legs and knew exactly where she was. Sarah doesn't march during the pregame show as the director and her dad didn't want to confuse many people. When the band was playing the school song, I looked for Sarah and saw her doing the dance that the cheerleaders do for the school song. I purchased a new camera last fall after the football season, with better zoom. Tonight is the first time that I have been able to use it during a game. I am really happy with some of the shots that I was able to get. I even managed to get a few pictures of Kurt working that don't include his rear end. Most of the pictures of him at work are from the backside. So excited to actually showcase his front half in some scrapbook pictures. Tuesday night Sarah will cheer during the freshman game, so look for a few more pictures of her cheering.

Are you ready for some football

Having a hard time believing that the football season kicks off tomorrow night. Now that Sarah is in high school, she can officially be listed as a member of the varsity squad. She will also be preforming in first half time show. For years the girls have waited around to watch the marching band show. It is hard to believe that Sarah is now a member of this band. Stay tuned for pictures tomorrow night.

kick off night

Last night was the annual fall kick off night. Sarah and I used to go every year and even took Kristen when she was just a little thing. It then became harder to go and Kurt always said to stay home. The time has finally come again, when I needed to go. This time it was for Sarah that I went. The cheerleaders, did some cheers, stunts, and the school song all in the little theater. The band was supposed to play, but they moved everything inside in case of rain so only the drum line performed. A light supper was also served. Sarah and Kurt's was free, I had to pay for mine and Kristens. We had a choice of hotdog or walking taco. When I went before they always grilled hamburgers. I understand why they stopped, but I miss the hamburgers. Anyway, this is the last Friday night for at least 9 weeks that the 4 of us will be together. Sarah and Kurt will be together on the football team and Kristen and I will be doing many different things.
After we ate and had the parent meetings, Kurt needed to put the tape down for the Volleyball courts and asked Kristen to come up to the gym and help him. She was thrilled to be asked to help daddy at the high school

Off to school they go.

Today was the first day of school for the girls. Kristen had back to school night last night, so she was able to take her supplies to school and meet her teacher then. Sarah had freshman orientation yesterday morning and came home all excited. Kristen's pictures this morning were taken a little early, but Sarah's were taken as she was going to school. Now that she is in high school, she starts school at 6:30 am most days. That of course means that mom gets to go to school early also. The morning was started off right, with a phone call from Hannah Montana at 6:00 am. Both girls came home excited from their first day. Lets home that the joy of learning continues.

1 down/179 to go.

Just a brief note to say, I survived my first day with students this year. My 9th grade class is looking good, and looks like I will also have a good group of alternative students this year. Hoping for a great year.

Our State Fair is a great State Fair

Friday morning the girls and I got up early in the morning, before the sun was up, and left to meet my mom in DeWitt. We then drove out to the Iowa State Fair. It has been 4 years since I was there last. Wow, it was so nice to be back, it almost felt like we were walking down main street at Magic Kingdom in Orlando. We arrived around 9 am, a little later than I wanted but still okay. Of course the very first place we need to visit is the 4-H building. Now for some reason they don't put this building in the front, no it is all the way to the back of the fair grounds. Sarah was thrilled to discover that her leadership project received a blue ribbon, but not so excited to see that she had a red on her cookie comparison. I reminded her that she made it to the state fair, which many people never do. I also pointed out that there were some people with white ribbons. Clinton doesn't give out a white ribbon, so in her mind red is bad, but really white is bad. After this we headed back to where we entered the grounds at for a blue ribbon kids program on the swine industry. Kristen was so excited and couldn't wait to do this program. What luck that the day Sarah has to perform is the same day as the swine program. She received a piggy bank, a little rubber pig,a wallet, a couple of pig pencils, a pig hat, a deck of playing cards, that uses cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens instead of hearts, diamonds, etc. and of course the very best thing in the world, she was able to hold a piglet. I am not sure that she has ever forgiven us for not living on a farm so that she could raise and show pigs. The rest of the day was spent checking out the varied industries building, the commerical buildings, the sewing exhibits, meeting up with a friend, and finally the share the fun performance. Minnehaha did an excellent job with their skit. While the share the fun is judged and comments given the participants just receive a green participation ribbon, and this year a state fair exhibitor t-shirt. There were many very talented 4-H members and clubs through out the state and it was fun to watch them. Finally at 7:30 we were able to leave for the day. Let me tell you it was a quiet ride home as both girls were out shortly after we left.
Kristen had a blast collecting temp. tattoo's at one point we counted over 15, but that wasn't even half of the ones that she could have picked up. And I almost forgot, we saw John McCain.
