Unexpected rest

Tonight was the annual Mardi Gras parade in Clinton. Sarah was supposed to march in the parade with the high school band. Due to the extreme cold temperatures (around freezing) and white stuff seen in the sky, they cancelled the bands. Instead of standing outside for about 1 1/2 hours wrapped in blankets and hoping that Kristen and I don't freeze, all 3 of us had the pleasure of having a night off. I had cancelled Kristen's piano lesson because of the parade and the dance studio always cancells class on this night. It was so nice to stay home tonight. We were able to make and enjoy supper together. At least the 3 girls. Kurt still had a volleyball match. After supper, Sarah worked on her homework, Kristen read and practiced her Awana and I was able to get a good start on Kristen's halloween outfit. Hoping to finish the top tomorrow night and get started on the bottom part of the outfit. It was so nice to have this time together tonight. We all felt like we were able to accomplish something and still felt rested. Now that football season is almost over, and Sarah is done with Cheerleading we should be enjoying a few more of these nights.

How cool is this

When I came home from school on Tuesday there was a message from a journalist with the Clinton Herald. This person was planning on doing a story about the Clinton River King Marching Band. She needed a picture and while searching on the web discovered my blog and wanted to know if she could use one of my pictures. Of course I called back and said yes. Today the article was in the paper with the picture that I took. If you check out my last post it is the very last picture of the band. I am so excited. Mrs Stevens my jounalist instructor from high school would be so proud to hear about this.

And were marching to the beat

A few pictures from the State marching band competition in Muscatine. This was the first time I have seen Sarah in uniform and the first time Dad has seen her march.

I breed cheerleaders

I am not sure how it happened but for some reason, I have produced one cheerleader and a junior cheerleader. The junior cheerleader plans on trying out once she is high school also. Last night was junior cheerleader night so of course, I had to take many pictures. The night was cold and it was rainy, so I didn't stick around for the varsity game and more pictures of Sarah. Enjoy these pictures of Kristen at the game however. In case you are wondering, she is the one in the red coat with the frog hat. (by the way Sarah made her that hat).

As the season comes to an end

Just a few final pictures from Sarah's freshman cheerleading season. The freshman had their last home game last night. She had a blast and is planning on trying out for the sophomore team in the spring.

15 years ago today

15 years ago I became a mommy for the first time. It is hard to believe that it has been 15 years already. She was such a cute sweet baby. Now she is a teenager, what more can I say.
I do want to share a poem on this day.

A touch of Love
You were six months old and full of fun, with a blink of my eye you suddenly were one. There were so many things we were going to do, but I turned my head and you were two. At two, you were very dependent on me, but independence took over when you turned three. Your third birthday another year I tried to ignore, but when I lit the candles there weren't three but four. Four was the year that you really strived, Why look at you now, Your're already five. Now you are ready for books and rules. This is the year that you go to school. The big day came; you were anxious to go. We walked to the bus going oh so slow. As you climbed aboard and waved goodbye, I felt a lump in my throat and tears stung my eyes. Time goes so fast, it's hard to believe that just yesterday you were home here with me and tomorrow when the bus brings you home and you jump to the ground, You'll be wearing your cap and graduation gown. So I'm holding to these moments as hard as I can because the next time I look, I'll be seeing a grown woman.
